About Kalkudah Beach

Kalkudah is what the east coast looked like before the resorts: a huge, gently curving bay of pale sand just south of Pasikuda's hotel strip, where on many days your only company is a fisherman mending nets under the palms. Where Pasikuda's shallow lagoon fills with waders and jet skis, Kalkudah faces the open sea with a little more surf and a lot more solitude - the beach runs for kilometres, fringed by coconut plantations slowly recovering their pre-war, pre-tsunami grandeur. There is little here but sand, palms, and a handful of guesthouses, which is exactly the appeal: bring a book, walk until your footprints are the only ones, and swim in the calmer months when the sea gentles. For the perfect east-coast day, split your time - Pasikuda's lagoon for easy swimming, Kalkudah for the escape.
