About Lover's Leap Falls
Lover's Leap is Nuwara Eliya's own waterfall, hiding in plain sight above the town: a 30-metre ribbon that gathers on the flanks of Pidurutalagala - Sri Lanka's highest mountain - and drops through a rocky notch above the Pedro tea estate, barely forty-five minutes' walk from the racecourse. The name carries the requisite legend: a prince and his forbidden love, pursued and cornered, chose to leap together rather than part - and the fall has watched over courting couples ever since. The walk is the charm of it: through Pedro's clipped tea (the factory, one of Ceylon's storied names, can be toured on the way back), along channels that once fed colonial waterworks, to the cool amphitheatre where the fall splashes down its dark rock face. Views open back over Nuwara Eliya's toy-town roofs and lake. It is 'Little England's' easiest escape - no jeep, no ticket, just a morning's stroll to a waterfall with a story.
