Madulsima keeps the hill country's best-kept cliff: beyond the tea town of the same name east of Badulla, estate roads climb to the escarpment brow where the highlands simply stop - and the land falls away thousands of feet to the eastern plains in one sustained plunge. The 'Mini World's End' viewpoints (there are several along the edge, by the old survey pillars) look out over a hazy infinity of lowland forest, tanks, and paddy stretching toward Gal Oya and the coast, with clouds often forming below your feet - the same drama as Horton Plains' World's End, minus the park gate, the fees, and the crowds. The journey is the filter: the estate roads are rough and slow, threading tea fields and line-rooms where visitors remain a happy novelty. Dawn is mandatory - by nine the cloud curtain usually closes. Bring breakfast, sit on the edge of the world, and watch Uva wake up.
