About Dunhinda Falls
Dunhinda is the pride of Badulla: a 64-metre waterfall that explodes off a cliff into a huge smoking plume - the name comes from 'dun', the misty spray that veils its plunge pool and gives it the nickname 'bridal veil falls'. Half the pleasure is the approach: a kilometre-and-a-bit footpath from the road winds along a jungle hillside, over a hanging bridge, past fruit stalls and troops of opportunistic macaques, with a glimpse of the smaller 'Kuda Dunhinda' fall en route. The viewing platform at the end faces the falls head-on across the gorge - in high flow the spray reaches you even there. The Badulu Oya, which feeds the falls, loops around Badulla town just 5 kilometres away, making Dunhinda an easy half-day from the end of the hill-country railway.
