About Kalpitiya
Kalpitiya is a sleepy, underdeveloped peninsula jutting into the Indian Ocean, known among marine life enthusiasts for world-class whale and dolphin watching. December–April, spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and occasionally blue whales gather in the lagoons and deeper waters - boat trips often see 50–100 dolphins in a single morning. The peninsula is fringed by shallow lagoons perfect for kayaking, and the beaches are empty and wild. Kalpitiya remains one of Sri Lanka's least touristy coastal areas, appealing to travellers wanting solitude and wildlife over beach resorts.
