About Hanthana Mountain Range
Hanthana Range rises directly behind Kandy, offering a 2–3 hour ridge walk with sweeping views of Kandy Lake, the Temple of the Tooth, and the hill-country valleys beyond. It's less rugged than the Knuckles but equally rewarding - the trail is well-marked, passes through open grassland and scrub, and feels like an escape from Kandy's traffic. The summit is modest but the sense of space and the views are immense. On clear mornings you can see right to the south coast. It's a half-day outing perfect for travellers based in Kandy who want a physical adventure without a full-day commitment. The grassland is beautiful in January when the flowering season peaks.
