Bopath Ella is nature's homage to Buddhism's holiest tree: the Kuru Ganga squeezes through a narrow rock notch and fans out in a flawless 30-metre cascade shaped exactly like the heart-and-tail leaf of the sacred Bo - a resemblance so precise it named the falls and wove them into local legend (treasure guarded within, a spirit light that rises some nights, villagers will tell you both). An easy, paved five-minute walk from the road near Kuruwita makes it the most accessible major waterfall in the country, and its wide plunge pool - swimmable at the edges in low flow, dangerous mid-current always - draws happy local crowds on weekends. Food stalls, king-coconut sellers, and rest pavilions give it a cheerful bathing-spot bustle wholly different from remote falls like Bambarakanda.
